Concept :

trans cultural space.

Being the concentration of Eastern and Western culture, it is not too much
to say Itaewon is the most exotic area in South Korea. The District, located on the first and second floor of the Hamilton Hotel, was designed as a complex cultural space holding the uniqueness of Itaewon, where a diversity of styles and culture coexist.

The project occupying the first and second floor includes Irish pub ‘Prost’, traditional European lounge ‘Glam’, and club ‘Mute’ evoking of the ‘20s and ‘30s of the  United States of America.

Prost

The Prost the pub on the first floor was planned centering on the main bar set along an oblique axis. The ‘ㄷ’ shaped bar looks out on the hall and the garden, and the circulation that leads to the kitchen, restroom and the outside disperses and crosses the sight lines. The oblique axis gives a sense of rhythm and tension to the space as well as changing the floor level and making a more dynamic circulation flow. The two individual rooms situated on a side are themed with olive green and black respectively and are furnished with dignified English style tables.

The rooms also display a 80-year-old steel oven and 30-year-long scraps on the history of art, which was collected by an anonymous French in the 1950s, giving off an old, natural feel. This is not a work of mere imitation; the harmony with the past has brought more warmth and a special feel to the pub.
