This is the new Oncology Block within Vimhans hospital complex. The building has been designed with following ideas -
•Fundamental concept was to have stepping terraces in the building elevation, which would then integrate with interior spaces at different levels. Integrating Built with landscape and healing through nature
•The design reflects the values of the caregivers and community, embodying humility, environmental sensitivity and innovation.
•Double height terrace gardens were introduced at different levels throughout the front façade. These gardens not only acted as healing gardens for the recovering patients, but also gave rhythmic breaks in the front façade of the building.
•Instead of institutional gray walls and poor lighting, the lobby and hospital rooms resemble what one would find in a deluxe hotel with a window and a view of nature. We wanted to assert that a more-natural and less-clinical environment promotes healing in patients and productive behavior in medical staff.
•The core of Oncology Block is the Bunker which contains Linear Accelerator. Since the patient has to lie on the ‘Linac’ bed for several hours, we have tried to create a soothing interior space with a backlight ceiling dome—which relates with nature!
