The K+12 is situated in the outskirts of Bangalore city. The design looks to create a environment that focusses on Education, Health, Leisure and Values in children. The design also attempts to reclaim Green spaces which are lost in the modern concrete jungles. The climate responsive building design attempts to reduce energy loads effectively.
Cities have become urban jungles and Recreational Spaces have been lost due to rapid urbanization leaving Children contained in Indoor environments. The School Master Plan, although in an Urban setting, tries to overcome this challenge by providing multiple open spaces to the Children. Modern day education should not only emphasise “Academics” but also focus “Health & Leisure” to allow Holistic development of Children.
The Cultural and Academic Center blocks are placed in between the classroom blocks modulating the courtyards and giving them each a distinct character. Each courtyard was assigned a function based on its spatial qualities which guided its landscape design.
The courtyards transition from large to smaller and this transition is reflected in the landscape by using combinations of hard paving materials and greens. The open areas are closed off by the addition of two gated walls and the canteen building allowing access to be monitored and controlled, which was an important requirement of the client.
