OS31 were commissioned by Igloo Regeneration to bring some festive cheer to Marshall’s Mill, Leeds. The Mill was converted in 2011 and is home to a number of creative industries. The brief was to design a contemporary tree that would compliment the architecture and could be used all year round.
Design Approach: The aim was to create a tree that was adaptable, beautiful and worked with the building’s industrial heritage. The tree is made from marine ply cut with a CNC machine. It is built up in 4 layers that can be disassembled and reused around the development after Christmas , then come back together to form the tree again each year. The rings hold 24 poinsettias—one for each day of advent. These will be taken home by people who work in the building as a little gift after the Christmas party. Fresh plants can then be added to reflect the season.
