Restoration of a Gala (Tiny Shop) in a 100 year old Bazaar

I love challenges! This was the very first thought that popped in my mind when Mr. Gurvish Modi approached me for the restoration of an old 13ft high, wooden structured gala at Sancha Galli, Kalbhadevi, Mumbai. Amidst rows of monotonous shops, I was asked to create classic-contemporary interiors that has efficient storage space yet be in sync with the rest of the market.. Keeping with its heritage, earthy tones have been used giving a rustic charm to the place. Eliminating pieces of furniture and opting for a glass sliding system that divides the gala into ac and non ac sections, a lot of open space has been achieved. In contrast to the white sheets used on the Gaddis(mattress) all over the market, Dark walnut laminates have been used, completing the overall crowded ambience to a soothing one.
