Container Housing

INTRODUCTION

The proposal is being given to a MNC involved in infrastructure, which wishes to re-use its containers being used as site offices and provide housing for bachelors for its IT/ITES Division. The idea was to come up with a creative arrangement to kill the monotony of the boxes while solving some of the housing related issues regarding container & community housing.

TERRACES

The arrangement was done keeping in mind that all houses get individual terraces. In a highly stressful job involving sitting in a Air-conditioned cabin in front of computer screen, who doesn't need a whiff of fresh air to sooth his system down.

IDENTITY

Often in community housing, especially highrise, individuality of the apartment unit is lost. One is never able to customize or differentiate ones house among many. Hence, colors of individuals choice can be used  and expressed over the sunshades of the openings. Also, the colors in totality add vibrancy to the composition.

CLIMATIC CONCERN

All the sunshades over the openings have been skewed to open up to the North and East direction to maximize sun, wind and light from these two directions while shielding the South and West.

Also the orientation of the building and Inter-shading among the container blocks are thought of and done in accordance to the direction of Sun and Wind. The building composition steps down towards East and North.

CENTRAL SPACE: COURTYARD/CORE

Since the Core had to be placed at the center, for ease of connectivity of vertical circulation, it was placed appropriately. But we also wish the core to breath, so that when RCC heats up, it encourages Stack Effect and stimulates wind flow throughout the building composition. Thus we used perforated FRP Grating for flooring and Bamboo Screens around the corridor to Air to flow, and also to attain a Contrast in material.

INTERIOR MODULE

Since the Entry for Container and Terrace Changes at every level, we designed the Interior in a Module of 8', (40' Container / 5), so that the Interior can be made modular while be changes as per requirement of the specific block. The Amenities proposed takes care of an Individual's requirement and recreation while the Terrace adds to the Bonus!!
