For a Mumbai based family, a trip to Turkey was the influence for their 2000sqft apartment in Parel. Vivid blues, houses brushed in lime, arched or ornate doors and windows, and bright and saturated colors all of this provided the essence to this Home.
In a Mediterranean home, textures play an important role. Inspired by this, we incorporated textured walls, fretwork and Mediterranean tiles for that exotic touch. This four bedroom apartment was redesign into an open, welcoming space for the family and their guests. The living room is awash in white textured plaster reminiscent of the lime washed houses of the Mediterranean.
One of the bedrooms was converted into an extraordinary bright-pink den that the family uses as a TV-room and lounging space. When they entertain, the peacock-blue sliding doors (covered with beautiful hand-painted lotus, dragonfly, birds) are opened, merging the living room into the den. All the material was sourced locally in Mumbai, except for some of the lighting, which the family brought back from a trip to Turkey (and which is the starting point for this theme).
Painted cupboards, Turkish accessories, comfortable armchairs with cushions and books waiting to be read make this space welcoming. A dramatic navy-blue and white powder room leads off from the den and is embellished with a Turkey inspired chandelier that lends a touch of glamour and ethnic flair to a functional space.
A walk through this home scattered with deep-blue, pink and sand-colored hues makes you hanker for Istanbul and its bazaars.
