New project

The architects Domingos Pascali and Sarkis Semerdjian are sons of craftsmen. In São Paulo, one was a goldsmith and the other created shoes. From them, they inherited the ability for craftsmanship and the appreciation for a production made with dedication and the primes for quality. An inheritance that they portray today in their portfolio and seek to apply in everything they do.

In 2010, the partners got together to form the architecture studio Pascali Semerdjian Arquitetos, located in São Paulo, acting in various areas - from architecture, interior, product design and scenography. The main characteristics of the studio is the constant search for excellence and the respect for the desires of their clientes.

Two creations that deliver this are Galeria Melissa in New York, and Casa Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro. Besides reaching the result aimed by the brands with their audience, they were also recognized by the critics when they received the iF Design Awards 2015, in the category of Architecture and Interiors.

Each project developed by the studio is unique and tailored by a tuned team. And constantly the partners challenge each other to not repeat anything they have created previously. Ï believe that the understanding of each of our client’s desire is the north of our studio”, explains Domingos. “We have tried, ever more, to find our way, but always challenging to create something that doesn’t have great external influence”, completes Sarkis. To reach this objective, they have mixed their client’s request with the references they bring along with them. In the list of artists, photographers and designer that inspire the architects to create are great names like Richard Serra, Olafur Eliasson, Hans Wegner, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Nobuyoshi Araki.

In the day to day, the studio works on a multidisciplinary practice. One of the examples of this is the urban project of the city created at Serra do Roncador, Mato Grosso. It’s a new city, built from scratch, that will be dedicated for the sustainable tourism. “It is a challenging project that inspires many people”, says Domingos. “We always complain about the city we live in. This is our chance to make it better”, completes Sarkis.

Another example of this versatility of the partners is their creation of furniture pieces. The models already launched were done in partnership with ETEL, a Brazilian brand that have in their portfolio designers like Oscar Niemeyer, Jorge Zalszupin and Ubyrajara Giglioli. Among their recent productions lamp Ani is featured, receiving the German iF Gold Design Award 2015 for the Product category, where it competed with great international brands like Artemide. Soon, the studio will reveal its new partnerships in this area.

The studio has been published in Arquitetura e Construção, Casa e Jardim, Casa Vogue, Época São Paulo, Frame Magazine, Gabriel, Interior Design, IW Magazine Taiwan, Joyce Pascowitch, Lifestyle Magazine, Living, Monolito, Projeto Design and Wish Casa magazines, and at ArchDaily, Designboom, Folha de São Paulo and The Guardian websites.
