The kitchen had two period features—the hood connecting to a chimney allowing natural ventilation and a stone sink. The latter was very rustic, very damaged, positioned very low and the wrong width for the new worktop—it had to go. The naturally ventilated hood—thus silent and energy efficient—was kept, it ensured all vapour from wet areas would find its way up the chimney 24/7. The wall tile pattern chosen are Faïence de Salernes—a traditional local hand made tile with subtle glazed tones often seen laid as a patchwork. The Carrara Marble worktop was chosen to add to the Mediterranean feel.
