This was a late 19th century bungalow in Ooty for which we were fortunate to be the conservation consultants. Looking at the architectural character, there are some Scottish design features. All the rooms had timber floors except the kitchen and toilets. The kitchen was a separate block at the back typical of the British bungalows in India. There were two separate staircases for the servants to go to the toilets upstairs and clean them. The Interior designer and the landscape architect came from England. This is one of the projects where my office took great pains to conserve in a proper manner. Unlike many other projects where we did only design consultancy, here we had to coordinate all the works.
