The Triangle House sits on a

North-west corner plot measuring 29’x26’ in a dense residential area of

Rajajinagar, West Bangalore. The clients, a young family of four, came to us

with the only requirement that they want home with large comfortable spaces, as

their concern was that the site might be very small leading to congested rooms

inside. Being a corner plot, they wanted to significantly contribute to the

architectural fabric of the street to bring out a young and modern look.

We drew Inspiration from the

Craft of Origami for this project. The external elevation of the house is a

derivative of the light and weightless folds of the paper which seamlessly

wraps around the open corner of the site. Because the building was very narrow,

we consciously created slant moving lines along the horizontal which created

movement along its length.

The highlight of this project

was the creation of an illusion of larger spaces in a small site. We played

with openings in the ceilings, connecting all floors visually which made

interaction across all floors possible as it would in a large villa. The other

factor we played with was skylights, which flooded the space with moving light

and shadow throughout the day. This light in combination with an all-white

interior colour pallet exploded the space substantially into large voluminous

spaces.

To keep the

budget under check, we decided against the use of marble flooring and veneers

for the furniture which were laborious in terms of time consumed for

installation and polishing. As substitutes we used ceramic tiles and laminates

respectively which cut short the time for completion as well us helped us

customise the exact colour we needed. The Platonic look of the house was

achieved by mono coloured materials with bright colourful specs which burst

through the white space.
