Ikubayeni Cafe, Dimensions Dimensions Commercial spaces

Ikubayeni cafe/bar located in Ndu, Cameroon, Africa.

The cafe made for client Rossette Bonya, along with Architect Francesca Serri. The challenge for this project was the lack of material availability and time constraint. We decided to make this bar with the locally available materials which were bamboo, mahogany wood, Cyprus wood, Teak wood and printed fabric. Using ergonomic lines to create distinct partition between the passage to the toilet, ramp to the hotel entrance, the Bar, The dining space and service area.

The ergonomic lines on paper were brought to life with African bamboo which are east to manupulate forming beautiful lines in the space. the detailing and dressing of the walls was done with the fibers of bamboo, threads and bright coloured printed fabrics which also substituted as lamps at dawn. the furniture was completely made in bamboo except the bar counter which was in mahogany wood. baskets of various sizes were used as light fixures and lanters were used to accentuate light in specific area’s.
