1. ORIGINALITY
/INNOVATION/CREATIVITY:
Incorporated the outside
inside and merged it
with nature. “Creating landscape as a major portion, we could magnify the
boundaries of each program i.e. the living room, the dining and the bedrooms
would not only feel much bigger but also would have sectional relationship with
the open to sky and large volume of spaces. A couple of neat stacked
rectangular boxes are designed as a single unit to maximize the space and
breathe within the nature. “We cladded the front and back façades by engineered
wood and stone i.e in no- maintenance cedar to warmly greet the nature.
A water body welcomes us in. By placing the pooja room at the front of the house facing a large window with metal screen overlooking the nature, we tried to create a space where-in the family can meditate feeling amidst the nature with an aura of purity. Inside the main door, a light tunnel is created to announce the pre-entrance in the form of a passage.. A concept of vastness is achieved by a passage leading into a room which in turn leads to a garden. . Maximum natural light; wind and vision are allowed to come through the big openings in the family room.
A welcoming sculpture takes away our focus when in transition space from one floor to other. Recreation space is specifically carved out with a concept of sports in mind.
Certain furniture pieces which we brought were the vintage pieces and now are refreshed in their new contemporary setting. The house is a play of contrasts – old and new, subtle and bold, playful and practical.
2. FUNTIONALITY /EFFICIENCY AND FIDELITY TO CLIENTS BRIEF : The brief called for a feeling of amalgamation of variety of spaces with different characters… Different spaces where integrated in the house according to the clients brief. A linear passage is designed in such a way that an eye can be maintained on every activity of the house. Every space connects with the nature outside as demanded by the clients. The family room houses a dining room which is visually connected with kitchen, which in turn has a service table that it doubles as a work area and linearly connects to the bedroom and living room.
A special recreation room is designed with sports as a concept with every an every corner telling a different story and game. This gives a very dramatic feel by creating space frames of octagon shapes on the ceiling by cement sheet and furniture pieces of raw finishes. A wall is created by fire bricks to give a very rustic impression where as one of the wall has world map embossed on it with hanging lamp and sport accessories creates a sense of motion in the room .
3. CONTEXTUAL REFERENCE AND ENVIRONMENT CONCERNS:
In the quiet suburbs of Alkapuri, Baroda, there is a conceptually designed housing colony; where homes are arranged around a centrally located common. Every room opens in garden giving ample of natural light in the house thus saving the power.
Natural materials are used instead of artificial elements reducing the extra energy sources.
4. DETAILING/USE OF MATERIAL:
We cladded the front and back façades by engineered wood and stone. Organizing the open concept interiors we started defining rooms and directing them into a common passage. It gives a sense of direction with the help of linearity and the lights being the guiding point.
An eye catching door with unique underline geometry of circle is carried further and explored ahead with material like wood and metal. A meticulous design has been carved out by exploring and combing the two materials. At the front of the house a metal screen again following an underline geometry concept has been designed to gain an indirect vision yet maintaining the character of the space.
The family room acts as a major stopover space. Bar is housed in the family room following the concept- solid and void. Basic geometrical octagon reaches its climax by space frames highlighted with lighting effects. Temporary elements like chandelier on the dining area and unique wall art, created by the architects themselves, using stone of different finishes act as major art pieces.
Guest room has mirrors wrapped in a unique geometrical pattern having mdf as basic material and has a golden paint which enhances the richness and hence creating drama in the space. Simple materials like tiles with different texture and graphics as backdrop and wood as flooring is used to create a unique ambience in the bed room.
Solid materials in greys are used as a back drop which is balanced by leather head board of contrasting color on beds in son’s bed room having the composition of graphics in a very subtle manner. The toilet door is conveniently flush with the wall in the son’s bedroom by painting it with p.u paint and using the same material on the door as the backdrop on the wall.
A luxurious stairway from wood and concrete is created to give the bare look of wood and to enhance the love for wood. A welcoming sculpture takes away our focus when in transition space from one floor to other with a beautiful decoration with pebbles backlight in certain areas.
