Internal 3D View of Residential Bungalow at Indore, Madhya Pradesh: modern by SDMArchitects,Modern

SDM Architects from Mumbai, designed an angular residential bungalow on a plot of 40x50 ft in Indore, Madhya Pradesh for a family of 4 people. This Ground + 2 floor house is currently being constructed with typical site constraints in India, in which the three sides of the compound wall are shared along with the neighbours plot. The overall composition of the building had to be developed in a way that it would respect our clients need for space and our need for proper cross ventilation and view. The result is a unified layout with interesting juxtaposition of living spaces along utilitarian areas.

The restricting site conditions and its positioning did raise architectural design issues which needed to be looked at as an opportunity to experiment with the basic building mass for new possibilities. The developed angular layout for the house worked well in creating flowing spaces from inside to outside with most of the rooms having an external balcony access for better view. A grand open-air staircase cuts through the central court space of the house which allows for better light and ventilation throughout the house. It also acts as a transition space between living, kitchen and dining on the first floor.
