Deirdre Dyson says:

“The 2016 Collection is named after my recently published book, ‘Walking on Art’, and is an evolution of the 2015 Illusion collection. There are nine designs, which feature blocks of colour grading and chunks of silk, integrated in a way that will play on light. I have combined strong and subtle tonal contrasts to create optical illusions and added drama through splashes of unexpected colour.”

One of the techniques that makes Deirdre Dyson’s treatments so special is her sophisticated use of colour grading. Thanks to her fine art experience, Deirdre is able to perfectly judge the variation of different shades in order to achieve a smooth transition that makes the hues run smoothly into one another. Her keen eye is brought to life by the skilled craftsmen in Nepal, who hand-knot each carpet, changing the direction of the grading and coloured threads as they work across the loom (such as in Scatter above).

Deirdre’s designs are intended to provide inspiration for clients. Each carpet is totally bespoke, so clients can create a personalised design, choosing their own shape, colour combination and size. Anything is possible—including circular profiles, cut-out edging, even a fish-shaped silhouette (see our Angelfish design). Carpets can be fitted or free-standing. Different production methods are used to suit both budget and space. Hand-knotted carpets are made from luxurious wool or a tactile combination of wool and silk. Alternative methods include tufting for fitted carpeting and pass machine for larger (commercial) spaces – both types of production are carried out in the UK, still creating unique designs.

Deirdre Dyson is proud to subscribe to GoodWeave (http://www.goodweave.org.uk), the international non-profit organisation working to end child labour in South Asia’s carpet industry. Goodweave educates and provides vocational training for illegally employed child workers, to help them towards a better future.
