25’-0” of black cotton soil lay below the surface. Nature’s best cotton growing substrate behaved like chewing gum under a steam roller.
We excavated about 8’-0”; then stacked rock for 5’-0”. Tremix tied both ways was finished with black sandstone.
Mellow and mature, our design response went about articulating a multi-zoned space that was accessible, atmospheric and moody, yet true to purpose with drinking, eating and socialising placed at the center.
