Designing a bare shell apartment poses a significant challenge at most times since everything needs to be customised. And it becomes even more challenging when it needs to be done in the middle of a pandemic. When the interior designers at Décor My Place took on the featured project, it was during the peak of the COVID pandemic in May-June 2020. It took them around two months just to complete the design, including planning the layout, making 3D models, and scheduling the electrical and plumbing work, among other tasks.

The design covered the foyer, three bedrooms, living room, kitchen, utility balcony, terrace, staircase, and dining. The comprehensive scope of work ranged from designing sofas to civil work and material selection, such as tiles for all the bathrooms and flooring, besides execution of all aspects such as floor tiling, bathroom tiling, waterproofing, plumbing, electrical work from scratch, and fabrication for the staircase, terrace pergola, glass stair railing, and glass partitions for the bathroom.

With their extensive experience in designing customised apartment interiors for customers, the team at Décor My Place didn’t let the pandemic stop them from executing the project to perfection. Let’s tour the project to see the immaculate finishes and the beautiful custom features that make the design unique and memorable.

Cosy and contemporary living room

The living room design included several custom elements to suit the space and the client’s requirements. The false ceiling with built-in LED lamps and a beam to hide the curtain fixtures was one of the elements that required customisation. Besides the custom-built sofas, a panelled glass wall was incorporated between the living room and the guest room to create the illusion of a larger space. A rolling blind was installed to provide privacy in the guest space when required.

Open-concept dining and kitchen

An open-plan concept in the living, dining, and kitchen seamlessly connected the spaces while giving each space a distinct identity. The layout ensured easy movement between the living room and dining area. In contrast, the kitchen is visually separated by a built-in cabinet that doubles as a countertop for storage and display, with pendant lights highlighting the objects on the counter.

Modern kitchen

The kitchen was planned with premium features, including lacquered glass shutters from Saint-Gobain. Attention to detail ensured the kitchen ticked all the boxes for functionality, with pull-out basket drawers, built-in appliances, and ample storage and counter space.

Elegant foyer

The foyer design included a storage and display niche with a beautifully framed open shelf sandwiched between cabinets on top and at the bottom. The shelf included a spotlight to highlight the beautiful statue displayed on it.

Unique guest room

Behind the glass-panelled partition in the living room is a cosy guest room with a sofa bed and a custom-built TV wall and cabinet for storing media accessories.

The roller blind can be closed to keep the area private when needed.

A cosy and stylish primary bedroom

The space-saving design in the main bedroom included several custom features to suit the space, such as a canopy frame over the bed to hold pendant lamps, eliminating the need for bedside tables. PU paint created a flawless finish in the room, with built-in closets providing ample storage.

The daughter’s bedroom

In the daughter’s bedroom, a space-saving Murphy-style pull-down bed allowed the flexibility of folding the bed to create more space to play. Customised built-in furniture, including closets, cabinets, shelves, and a desk with laminate coating in the chosen colour scheme, created the perfect design for a young girl’s room.

Stylish staircase

The staircase leading to the terrace included a glass railing to avoid limiting the natural light in the area. Wooden steps on a fabricated metal frame with a steel safety rail complement the railing. The designers also optimised the space under the stairs by including a wall-mounted basin.

The terrace includes several customised elements, such as a fabricated pergola with a transparent polycarbonate sheet, wooden flooring, and decorative brick cladding.

After viewing the project, one can appreciate the volume of work and the attention to detail that went into the planning and design of the entire project and the flawless execution, that too during the peak of the pandemic. This project by Décor My Place highlights the benefits clients get when hiring experienced and reliable interior designers and decorators to transform their homes into stylish and liveable spaces.
