Founded back in 1991, CS Design is fast becoming one of South Africa’s most profound interior design professionals. The company might be located in Sandton, Johannesburg, yet throughout the years CS Design has managed to build up quite the portfolio showcasing various projects completed across South Africa, the UK, and even New York (talk about designs with an international flavour!).
Interior design might be the core function of CS Design’s daily operations, yet clients are also offered a collection of other equally inspiring services such as 3D rendering of plans, mood boards and presentations, custom furniture designs, renovations, consultations, and workshops.
Today, we catch up with an older project of CS Design: the renovation of a young bachelor home in Jukskei Park, Johannesburg.
So, what kind of “palette” were the professionals presented with? An existing traditional house, built somewhere in the 1960s – 70s, that has grown out of date. In need of more space and a welcoming look, CS Design opened up the house without making any structural changes. A full-on interior renovation was up next, with all custom and bespoke furnishings chosen to give the interiors that stylish, inviting look.
Here, at the back of the house, the covered terrace looks out onto a perfectly manicured garden and enticing swimming pool. And speaking about enticing, how about those delicious terrace furnishings with fresh colours, sleek lines, and lush motifs?
Since this home was being prepared for a bachelor, that put a certain restraint on the creativity of the interior designers. Obviously they were not going to get away with hot pinks and floral patterns! Luckily, client satisfaction is key to CS Design, which is why the new interiors flaunt a perfectly contemporary look without being either too masculine or feminine.
They key to this successful project? So many features, yet you can bet that colour, pattern, furniture style, and especially materials were all properly considered.
As we mentioned, no structural changes were implemented for this project. And luckily, it wasn't necessary, as here a delightful open-plan layout (a very modern touch, by the way) conveniently combines the dining zone, living room, and kitchen.
Notice how the dominant colour palette is made up of earthy / neutral tones, while only a handful of patterns (none too flowery or twirly) were chosen to display some character here and there.
This main suite reminds us that one doesn't need to include an overdose of blues and leather / wood finishes to make up a modern man's bedroom. With more than enough legroom to spare, this bedroom still manages to include all the necessities (storage compartments, lots of lighting, adequate layout of furniture, etc.).
For extra convenience, an en-suite bathroom is located a few steps away from that inviting bedroom. And even here the commitment to style doesn’t waver. Case in point, that fantastic exposed brick surface which covers not only select areas of the walls, but also the entire floor. Talk about a rich pattern / texture for a super modern bathroom design!
