One of the most popular type of modular built-in kitchen types is the U-shaped kitchen. It is often used in modern homes as it is very efficient. The space distribution and the arrangement of how everything in the kitchen is placed makes it easy to work in the kitchen. It makes use of the principals of kitchen design such as the work triangle. The U-shaped kitchen layout is ideal for keeping people out of your way while you cook as well. Creating a peninsula can allow space for guests to stay near the kitchen but not too close to it. There are several other designs you can try as U-shaped kitchens come in various shapes and sizes. Read on to find out more about U-shaped kitchens.

One good tip to keep in mind is that it's best to have the fridge outside the U as it takes up too much space. Many modern kitchens these days place the fridge on the wall opposite the U so that it stays within the work triangle. U-shaped kitchens with peninsulas are popular to say the least, mainly because they allow space for sitting and eating. However the seating space in U-shaped kitchens is usually quite small and limited compared to that of an L-shaped kitchen. So if you want a kitchen with a lot of seating space, the U-shaped kitchen is not for you. Here are 8 exquisite L-shaped modular kitchen designs for more ideas.

If you decide to have a peninsula in your U-shaped kitchen, you might have to install the stove there due to a lack of space. This arrangement may result in a little gap in the work triangle as the sink area would be placed opposite the stove, but it's still workable—the compensation is extra work space for prepping and serving on the peninsula.

In this U-shaped kitchen the fridge and stove are outside the “U,” so there might be some distance between the stove and sink. An alternative is to have a small sink by the stove, but you'll have to sacrifice something for it, maybe a cabinet. However there might be times when moving things around is not an option. Then it's best to get a professional to advice you on what to do.  For more inspiration, here are 7 comfortable U-shaped kitchens for Indian homes.
