Bathroom cabinets and bathroom cupboards should be chosen based on the style or look you want for the whole room, but it is also very important to make the decision of purchasing one on the durability and lifespan of the material being used for it. The quality of the material used for bathroom cabinets is important because the high level of moisture and humidity in the bathroom will cause damage to the cabinet over time. Bathroom cabinets must also be strong enough to support the sink, so high quality material is essential.

The best material for bathroom cabinets and bathroom cupboards is MDF or medium density fiberboard, which is a composite material made out of many different types of compressed wood combined together with resin or wax. It is best to cover it with veneer or paint to make it last longer. MDF looks great and is also one of the most popular low-cost options available.

PVC, plywood and solid wood are the other most common options. PVC is a cost-effective solution as well, but doesn't last as long as MDF. Solid plywood is definitely a much cheaper option than solid wood, but take note that both are high maintenance materials and may get damaged easily due to wet environment of the bathroom.

Bathroom storage is very important as it will help to keep the bathroom neat and tidy. The most popular design for bathroom storage is to use the space below the sink and try to extend it as far as possible with bathroom drawers. Wall cabinets, storage ladders and wicker baskets are another option. However for smaller bathrooms, one great space-effective design is to make use of vertical space and have a narrow storage tower, instead of a wide cabinet which takes up more space. Even larger bathroom often install a narrow storage tower as a bathroom towel shelf.

Bathroom corner shelf

A bathroom corner shelf is essential for spaces like the shower room and the sink area. Generally, bathroom corner shelves are also used to save space in the bathroom by making use of the corners. Another space-effective solution is shower niche shelves, which are essentially niches carved into the wall. However it can be challenging to install niche shelves in an existing bathroom because it may damage the plumbing and pipes running through the inside of the walls.

Bathroom corner shelves come in various styles, colours and materials. Choose a bathroom corner shelf that suits the style of the bathroom and blends in well with the bathroom cabinet. For more inspiration, have a look at 5 bathroom shelving ideas.

Bathroom walls shelves can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes as pictured in the example here. As mentioned before, it is important to match the wall shelves with the rest of the bathroom, but also equally as important to consider the durability and quality of the material being used. We highly recommend using the same type of material as you would use for the bathroom cabinets or bathroom cupboards. Below is another example of how bathroom walls shelves can be placed.

Glass bathroom shelves

Glass bathroom shelves are popular because they blend in well with almost any decor and are easy to keep clean. Due to the translucent quality of glass, the shelves also seem to take up less space visually. However glass is a fragile material which can easily be damaged and can be dangerous, especially if there are small children at home. Be careful not to put too many heavy things on top of glass shelves. Wooden bathroom shelves are another alternative, but they are more costly and may look out of place in a modern bathroom. Glass bathroom shelves can cost between Rs 150 to Rs 600 depending on the quality, size and weight tolerance of it.
