You hate it or you love it, but one thing is for sure you can’t stop the natural transition of climate. It will change, and will change in its own pace. Now as we are soaking in the warmth of spring after braving the chilly winter, we are also aware that the summers are not far away. It is knocking on the door. Indian summers are famous for its harshness. Whether we like it or not it will come, with a big bang. The least we can do to get some respite is to make our home ready to face the brutality of heat so that at least we can be cool and comfortable inside our home. Indian summer means staying inside hidden from the blazing sun and hot breeze called loo. Here we are with some basic tips to make your home summer ready.

1. Dress up the windows

You need to dress up the window to cut the brightness of sun during the daytime. When the sun is glowing bright outside, draw the thick curtain to darken the room to bring in some respite from brightness and heat. It will bring down the temperature of the home. Pull the curtains in the evening and freshen the home with gentle cool breeze blowing after sundown.

2. Open the space

Make the space open, remove the partitions, de-clutter the home and allow the breeze sweep down the home every day. The more open and clean the space is the cooler it will look and feel.

3. Summery shades

Cool soothing shades spread around the house will make the atmosphere cool and calm. Pack the bright vibrant shades and save it for winters. Bring out the soft, delicate summery furnishing. It will be a treat for your eyes and mind.

4. Cool floor beneath your feet

Carpet and rug on the floor will look heavy and warmer during summers. Remove it and enjoy the cool floor beneath your feet. Trust me you can even enjoy your afternoon siesta or evening tea right on the cool floor.

5. Bring the greenery inside

Summer is the time for indoor gardening. The season of blooming flowers are over and it’s time for greenery. Plants will surely bring in some cool freshness inside the home to sooth our mind and soul.

6. Sound of water

Nothing can be more cooling than the sound of water during summers. We can’t stand under the shower the whole day. What we can do is install a beautiful fountain inside or outside our home. The sound will be refreshing.

7. Unwind with the breeze

Make a comfortable place to sit in your balcony where you can sit with your family or friends, or even alone to enjoy the cool evening breeze or watch the stars shining in the clear summer sky.

8. Tone down the lights

After facing the bright and sunny day for a longer duration, we surely want to cut out the lights and enjoy the soothing dim lights in the evening. Yellow light has a calming effect on our mind and soul. Also avoid direct florescent lights. Instead of it opt for subtle lighting coming from hidden sources or beautiful lamps.

9. Visual illusion

Though it may sound illogical, but it works, Trick your mind by painting the cool mountain scenery on the wall of your bedroom. The view will create a visual illusion and will cool you down even without AC after a hot day outside.

10. Floral magic

Though the floral seasons are over still there are a few summer flowers available in the market. Or even the artificial flowers will do the magic. Decorate your home with flowers. It will fill your house with positive vibe, pleasant feeling, fresh energy and beautiful memories of spring and winter to keep you calm and cool.
