What makes a great home extension? We think that subjective tastes will always play a role in that decision, but other than that, you need to look for additions that seamlessly work with original buildings and offer enough extra space to be worth the investment. We've found a host of wonderful British home extensions to show you today, which look as amazing as they are functional and we can't wait to share them with you. It might be time to get your builders on the phone, as these fantastic spaces are going to inspire you no end!

1. Gorgeous in glass.

Wow! What a great way to get a bigger kitchen! This extension os so fantastic because it makes a traditional terrace so much larger and with a glass roof panel, there is a wonderful amount of light pouring in, which is key in such a functional space. It's a great touch of modernity too!

2. Wow-factor wood.

Everything about this delightful extension is fantastic! From the wood cladding that beds the new addition into the original build, through to the height, pretty windows and the integrated terrace. It's a great mix of old and new styles that maintains a definite rural vibe.

3. Be a square!

This rear extension has been so beautifully designed to offer consistent styling with the original property. Boxy, deceptively basic and super functional, this addition has totally opened up the whole of the ground floor and offers such a lovely connection to the garden as well.

4. Blended beauty.

A traditional terraced house has been given a serious style injection here, thanks to a sandy-coloured brick extension and adjoining steel and glass construction. The juxtaposition created by these two separate and yet connected spaces is amazing and the interior looks so modern!

5. All out individuality.

When you think of home extensions, we bet this style isn't the first thing that popped into your mind! By straying from the constraints of 'normal' architecture, what has been created here is astounding, eye-catching and really covetable! Just look at how much extra room has been created inside!

6. Blink and you'll miss it!

It would be staggeringly easy to not notice the extension here, as it has been designed to blend with the original home so perfectly. This is an example of architecture that seeks to integrate rather than stand out and we are in love with how easily extra space has been created, without interrupting those heritage good looks of the house.

7. Audacious addition.

From an extension you couldn't instantly see to one you definitely couldn't miss, this is amazing! Large, contemporary and almost artistic in the sense that it is so at odds with the design of the original house, there is a creative dialogue going on here. The sliding doors offer such a wonderful connection to the garden as well. Wow!

8. Is it new or not?

Talk about a well-designed extension! The colours, finishes and motifs have been selected to perfectly blend with the house but then there is a kick of unique styling, in the form of the dual-pitched roofs. We haven't seen anything like this before and that earns it a place in our favourites, for sure!
