When your family is increasing in number or when you have extra space in your lot, the thought of expanding your house might cross your mind. Sometimes, you also want to change the appearance of your house. On another note, you might simply be liking this idea so we'll fill you in on different ways to go about an expansion project at home.

1. Construct an extended living room

Who said you could only have one living room? We definitely didn't. Of course, this requires you to have that extra space for building one. It can look like this semi-detached living room complete with cozy furnishings!

2. A minimalist living room

This one is another living room styled with a minimalist look.

3. Recreate the country club vibe

If you're familiar of those golf and country clubs, you'd notice their well-manicured lawns and general fancy atmosphere. Bring that to your own home by constructing back porch with a lean-to white roof and white posts with matching white curtains. Use an artificial turf too for your floor so you can feel like your just in the country club waiting for your cold juice drink.

4. Have a sunroom

The sunroom is a glassy attachment to your home. It can have furnishings inside for an extended living room, a separate dining area, or it can also be a working studio. Its roof is also made out of a transparent material which can be glass or a polycarbonate sheet.

5. Create a small wooden deck

A small wooden deck that's enhanced by clear glass panels is just the perfect addition especially when it's surrounded by your garden or beautiful backyard. It's also styled like a sunroom with its translucent roof.

6. An alternate wooden sitting room

Here's another chic way to use wood for an extended room.

7. Grow ivy on your shed

This is under the assumption that you've built your covered porch. Although this image doesn't exactly feature ivies on it, the bare roof and posts in this one can be perfect for growing the said plant to effect a dramatic cascading canopy.

8. A separate terrace

Since a terrace is pretty much any elevated space with an opening, you can try having a detached one like this. It's got a mix of retro and modern in terms of style but nonetheless has a clean and neutral color palette. The glass folding doors are also quite cool.

9. Use a container

Nowadays, the vessel container can be styled in a sophisticated manner to the point that people can live in it whilst feeling luxurious. This one had been created using the container and wood and it's looking very inviting inside.

10. Build a cafe-style dining space

Notice the store window look of cafe exteriors? Use that as inspiration to have your own cafe at home, only that this time it's for a dining room or a breakfast nook that's all bright and cheery.

11. Expand with doors

Another trick to expanding your home is to demolish walls and build glass doors or folding doors to open spaces and bring in more positive activity inside. On one level it sounds a bit metaphorical but it's actually a way to make your home more spacious and therefore still expanding your home.

12. Have a resort-like living room

This one takes the sunroom to another level by taking inspiration from resorts. Notice the modern and minimal use of furnishings plus the wooden open patio outside that's lighted by those warm floor lights.

13. Add a second floor multipurpose room

If you've got more space (and spare cash) especially since you added a covered back porch, a second-level multipurpose room might do you and your family good.

14. An L-shaped living room

If a boxy or rectangular one doesn't fit your vacant space, try an L-shaped living room like this one. Of course, it doesn't have to be a living room. You can use it as a detached office within your property or your kids' game room. The sky is the limit.
