Are you a homeowner that struggles with wall and furniture colour? Don't worry, you are not alone. In fact, we'd say that more than half of new homeowners especially are at a crossroads when it comes to this, and understandably so. But we have a pretty good way of getting around that fear, and we'd like to share it with you today.

This piece is all about colour and furniture and how to choose the best combination of both. We've gathered a series of several models of the same area, given to us by the interior architects at makasa, that will give you a good idea of how you could design your space. And not only colours will be examined today, but also flooring types and furniture arrangement. As you will see, natural light plays a big part in each design, so don't forget to think about your natural light source as you scroll.

Now let's tour these models so you can get to work on your home decoration!

1. A clean slate

This bright neutral living room in off-white goes perfectly with muted or ashy hardwood flooring. And better yet, dark or light coloured furniture will really bring the space together. Just make sure they're also in mainly neutral tones.

2. Subtle feature wall

We all know feature walls are used to bring extra colour and vivacity to a room, but when used with muted colours, it creates a subtler accent. This design would work amazingly with either the industrial or rustic design scheme.

3. Teal's a good deal

Teal is more vibrant than plain old blue and can be used to create quite the sophisticated atmosphere. It even makes room for a patterned floor design without taking away from the cosmopolitan aesthetic.

4. Now with furnishings

When the room is furnished, the colours of the wall pop even more. Here we have a rather industrial decor with modern features that imparts an equal amount of sophistication thanks to the colour choice.

5. A blank canvas

Just like the lighter neutral interior we saw earlier, this light grey and white room is the perfect blank slate for any interior design style.

6. Let's add some deco

Now that the room has a few modern furnishings in various colours and bold artwork, we get an interesting fusion of modern and retro that gives the area a laid-back vibe.

7. It's all in the textures

Now this would be the perfect room to add some rustic decor to! Raw, unfinished wood combined with rough textures like the beige brick wall give us all aspects of the natural. But rustic isn't the only style that would go well here…

8. Playing with styles

As we can see, quite sophisticated and classical furniture was added to this space, redesigning it from a bucolic scene to a more relaxed, yet elegant atmosphere.

9. Working with wallpaper

Wallpaper is a great addition to any room, and here, where we have oodles of natural light, a great complementing pattern would be a light one–perhaps with a floral theme. Match it with raw hardwood floors and you have the beginnings of a country home.

10. Grey brick

Do you like shabby chic? Then consider an interior like this: grey brick with white walls paired with ashy hardwood.

11. The striped look

Stripes have the wonderful ability of making your room look thin. Black and grey stripes deliver the same result, but can also be the backdrop for a very Victorian home.

12. Stark contrasts

A lot of the time when we see interiors, we will see walls that are darker than their floors. But here, we have quite the opposite, and the result is that much more intense than if done the other way around.

13. Pastels

Because of the large range of hues, you can enhance any style room with pastels. They're ideal if you want something subtle and want to venture beyond the beige palette. You can keep the room simple in colour but spicy in furnishings and accent pieces.

14. Sophisticated cheer

Yellow has a wonderful way of bringing a cheery ambience to any room no matter what hue its in. In this room, a modern and sophisticated vibe is achieved through neutral furnishings.

15. Let's go tropical

Who doesn't dream of a tropical getaway? Well in this room, the effect is just a decal away! Add some lovely wicker furnishings and top things off with a few vibrant accents, and you'll be feeling like you're on the beach in the Carribean in no time!

16. Three tones

Mixing two colours is a cinch, but when you get to three or more, then you're playing with fire. Get inspiration from this interior–bright yellow goes great with dulled and patterned teal, and to offset all those bold hues, something like a medium brown hardwood floor will bring it all together.

17. Quaint touches

Now this room has to be our favourite in the list. It combines a decal with the natural warmth of hardwood floors and wooden beams while also incorporating lively, yet delicate colour fades.

18. Well-rounded

Seeing this room furnished is even more spectacular. Modern, neutral furniture brings this space full-circle and gives all who enter a sense of belonging.
