Wood is a beloved material for architects and homeowners alike. Homes made from wood are energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and architecturally adaptable. So it's no wonder why most proprietors prefer it. And because so many people are in favour of this style and versatility, today's homify 360 is going to show you a home just for the lumber-lover!

Here in Tokyo, the heart of Japan, is where this project was built. It was designed by the architects at Atelier GLOCAL and these professionals used timber in ways that create a bright, open, and friendly atmosphere that radiates pure naturalness. So if you want to get some inspiration for your wooden home, or are just curious about a few wooden accent pieces, then come with us to explore the wonders of this amazing ligneous structure!

First glance

This family home was built on a small urban plot and has a few small gardens placed strategically around it. The home itself fits in with its neighbours with regard to form, but the material is really what makes it stand out. This timber clad façade portrays a warmth that the neighbouring, dull, white homes can't provide.

The home is fenced in by small concrete slabs that connect to metal gates which help protect the residents, while the shrubs and small trees that surround the home provide an excellent barrier for extra privacy.

A cosy terrace

Along the side of the home, we find a quaint and cosy terrace. These residents have the luxury of being able to soak in the afternoon sun while sitting in complete privacy behind those idyllic bushes. The grey stone tile walkway is as elegant as it is easy to care for, and it lends a beautiful contrast to the wooden façade.

Another big bonus point for this home is the addition of large sliding glass doors to make access to the terrace a breeze, while also allowing natural light and the beautiful landscape to make their way inside. Passageways like this really open up great lines of communication between interior and exterior and help to bring a bit of that glorious nature indoors.

Relaxing by the fire

The ground floor of the home follows an open floor plan and is flooded with natural light thanks to the various windows on each face of the home, and of course thanks to those sliding doors we mentioned earlier. The living room has an incredible wood stove, which is open to both floors and is able to heat the whole house.

The architects chose a warm and subdued yellow for the interior walls, which harmonizes wonderfully with this rustic and wooden theme.

Kitchen and dining

Soft wooden tones play just as much of an important role in the kitchen and dining areas of the home. The dining room table invites warmth, conversation, and festivities among family and friends.

No design is more suited to bringing those homey elements together than a proper, old-fashioned wooden table. The swirling grain and distinctive knots on the face of the table make it truly unique and it complements the straight grain we see in the wood flooring. This is the kind of rustic, hand-made charm you can't get with any other building material.

A small office

Just behind the dining room table, we have a small office space. Cute, compact, and clearly able to handle any organisational challenge given to it, this office ups productivity and looks great doing it.

Even in the bathroom

Finally, we're taking you to the second storey to show you that even in the bathroom, we have this fantastic wooden design. This light timber is perfect for this smaller space, as it opens things up and makes bath time that much more relaxing. But of course, grey tile was used for the lower portion of this room to keep any wooden floors from warping due to steam or water drips, and of course to keep cleanup simple.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: nothing is as versatile as wood, and this home just proves how successfully you can use it in each project you undertake!

If you liked this home, then you might enjoy these wonderful wooden home designs!
