The Japanese and Scandinavian interior design schemes are quite similar in principle. Zen design principles are all about modest designs, uncluttered living, bright interiors, and natural beauty, just like Scandinavian design. So it's no wonder why Scandinavian design is so popular Japan, and the home we're about to view today is Nordic in design and stationed in Matsuyama.

Brought to us by Yogo Homes, this home delights us with its simplicity and airy atmosphere. The design is neutral and unembellished and makes great use of all its spaces. Not only that, it brings nature indoors with its use of organic materials.

So if you love Scandinavian design, come with us on this tour and you might just get some inspiration for your home's design!

The façade

Here we have the exterior of the home. The large gable roof with Western-style tiles are characteristically European. We love the contrast between the orange roof and the sparkling white façade–it gives us a lively impression of sunshine.

To step into the home, you go up a quaint staircase that leads to the wooden front door. There's also direct access from the home to the garage, so these residents don't have to get wet on rainy days going from the car to the garage.

Elegant entrance

After we go up the small staircase, we find ourselves here, at the entrance. The brick path leading up to the timber door contributes to a Scandinavian atmosphere.

There's a small porch light above the front door that provides a warm and welcoming light for all visitors. The home also has a buzzer for added security.

Clean and natural space

Here we have the dining room, which is the quintessence of Scandinavian design. It's spacious and bright with a natural and refreshing vibe.

We love the uncomplicated table setup–just salt and pepper shakers with two decorative birds and cups. The chairs are made of solid finished wood, but the seats were crafted from wicker, making it a soft space to eat your meals. And for quick meals and snacks, the breakfast bar to the left serves as a great pit-stop area for the on-the-run meal.

The kitchen

The kitchen is both a stylish and functional space. It has tons of storage space, which is what every good kitchen needs. The all white interior redirects the natural light coming in through the windows and makes the entire interior bright and sunny.

The architects did a great job with the all white tile backsplash, too, as it acts as a great barrier protecting the wall from water and cooking spills.

Great use of attic space

We love saving the best room in the house for last, and in the attic, we have something really special. We have a multi-purpose room that functions as a reading nook, socialization area for any time of the day, and it can even be used as a small yoga studio.

Those large plush pillows are great to sit on to enjoy a cup of tea, and the turqious colour of the pillows and throw rug add life to the overall neutral interior. And once again, we have a large amount of natural light and contribute to a good-spirited ambience. The Scandinavian interior design scheme is big on emitting this spirit, and we think the architects at Yogo Homes pulled it off perfectly.
