The architectural firm FW4 | Architects has built a gorgeous, modern atrium house. Today we take a look at this home that combines geometry and simple line to create an elegant, stylish building.

What is an atrium house?

In general, an atrium house is defined by the presence in the plan of a space that is open to the sky, which is called the atrium. The atrium can be either open to the elements or sealed with a glass roof. This type of building has a long tradition and is particularly widespread in southern countries. The special form was created to offer a special form of housing that includes private open air space. In modern times, the motif of the courtyard or atrium house reappears.

The entrance

Here we see the entrance of the house. The paved driveway keeps the front of the house tidy. Concrete slabs create a modern stone garden. The atrium house is spread over the entire plot width. The one- and two-storey volumes are arranged so as to give the street a broad front with only slight projections and openings. The back of the house presents itself as open to the garden.

Firewood storage

Since the atrium house has a fireplace, the owners, of course, need somewhere to keep the firewood. The look and structure of the shed is perfect matched to the style of the home. The stack of the wood echoes the tiles of the patio, and the use of concrete creates a parallel to the walls of the Atrium House.

Dining room

The spacious dining area of the atrium house is located at the very centre of the ground floor and can accommodate up to six people. On the short side of the wall is an art installation space. A beautiful architectural element is the living room window, which appears to blend flush into the yard due to its lack of a lower window frame. The view of the garden includes a water element and is completed by the concrete wall at the border. The atrium is closed in on four sides and remains invisible.

Living room

Here we see the open-plan living room. The furniture is very modern and minimalist. The two armchairs provide colour accents for the room. Here we can also see the elegant modern fireplace, which is enclosed in glass and surrounded by a modern hearth.

A black staircase leads to the second floor of the house. Circular lights on the wall illuminate the stairs. The corridor continues the white, grey and black, creating a modern feel. Spacious closets, extending up to the entire height of the room, make the entrance convenient for storage.

The bathroom

Finally, we show you the bathroom, where we can see that the colour scheme was continued consistently. The design is modern and clean. A red strip in the corner of the bathroom creates a coloured accent for a stylish touch.
