Cleaning and Maintaining Kitchen Appliances: 3 Five-Minute Hacks
- Small glass bowl
- Kitchen tweezers
Cleaning and maintaining kitchen appliances should be done regularly, not only for the sake of your kitchen hygiene but also for extending the life of the appliances. Here, I will share three quick and easy kitchen appliance maintenance tips, which include sharpening blender blades, fixing pan handles and cleaning and disinfecting the scrub sponge so that all your utensils and dishes do not risk getting contaminated. With these kitchen appliance care and maintenance tips, the hygiene and safety of your kitchen will improve. Your blender will work efficiently without requiring frequent replacement of the blades. And, you won’t run the risk of a hot pan falling on your feet due to the handle coming off when you lift it. So, let’s get started with fixing your kitchen!
Step 1: Tips for maintaining your kitchen appliances - sharpening blender blades
Crushing ice is an excellent way to sharpen the blades of your blender, but a hack most people don’t know is to blend eggshells with half their volume of water. You can collect eggshells for this purpose by storing them in the freezer until you have enough to use.
Step 2: Blend the eggshells
Turn on the blender with the eggshells and water until the eggshells crack into tiny pieces. Then, discard them and clean the blender with soap and water.
Bonus tip: Instead of throwing out the eggshells, you can use them as fertiliser for your plans as they are a rich source of calcium. Use them on plants such as tomato, eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli and spinach.
Step 3: Kitchen maintenance hack: How to fix handles of pans
Collect all the pans that have loose handles. You will see a screw under each handle, which you can tighten using a screwdriver. In case of a broken handle, you can buy a new one and replace it. Unscrew the screw to remove the old handle and replace it with the new one. It’s an easy job for which you needn’t pay anyone to do it for you.
Step 4: Cleaning kitchen appliances the right way: Sanitise the sponge
A must-do cleaning routine for your kitchen is to sanitise the scrub sponge regularly. You should especially do this after you clean something greasy as it will otherwise spread the grease to the rest of the dishes when you clean them. For cleaning the sponge and sanitising it, place it in a small glass or ceramic bowl and pour vinegar over it. Then, zap it on high in the microwave for a minute to kill all the bacteria.
Step 5: Rinse the scrub sponge
Use kitchen tweezers or tongs to remove the sponge from the bowl and rinse it under the tap in the sink until it cools down. The sponge is now sanitised and ready for cleaning kitchen appliances.
